What this site does and doesn't do

seekanddetect.com is a companion site for the Seek and Detect YouTube channel, operated by the Manager of Seek and Detect ("the Manager"). It is a set of static pages. There is no account to create, no newsletter, no comment section and no database. We do not run analytics, we do not use advertising pixels, and we do not sell, rent or share information about you, because we do not have any.

What loads when you arrive

The page text, images, logo and code come from our own hosting. Two things come from elsewhere on every page load:

• Fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address and browser details.
• Video thumbnails from YouTube's image servers, which means Google receives the same.

That is the ordinary information any web server receives when your browser asks it for a file. We do not see it, and we have no log of it.

What happens when you play a video

Videos are not loaded until you click one. Before that click, only the still thumbnail image has been requested. When you press play, the video loads in YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), and from that moment YouTube and Google handle the session under their own terms — which may include cookies and similar identifiers. See Google's Privacy Policy. We receive nothing from that, beyond the public view counts anyone can see on YouTube.

The one thing your browser remembers

If you switch between the day and night colour themes, the site saves the word "night" under sd-theme in your browser's local storage so the page looks the same next time. It stays on your device, it is not sent anywhere, we cannot read it, and clearing your browser data removes it. It is a display preference, not an identifier.

Links to other sites

Outbound links lead to YouTube, manufacturers, retailers and NOAA. Those are independent services with their own privacy policies and their own data practices. Once you leave this site, this policy no longer applies.

Affiliate disclosure

Some product links are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, Seek and Detect earns from qualifying purchases, and may earn a commission from other partners. It costs you nothing extra. When you click one, that retailer may set its own cookie to attribute the referral. The commission reports we receive say that purchases happened — not who made them.

If you email about a lost item

If you write to us about a lost ring or a tip, we receive whatever you choose to put in that email, and it sits in an ordinary inbox. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to any list, because there is no list.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13 and collects no information from anyone, so it holds no children's data.

California and "Do Not Sell"

We do not collect personal information, and we do not sell or share it as California law defines those terms. There is accordingly no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link to offer. Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal; since nothing here tracks you, there is nothing for that signal to switch off.

Copyright

The channel's logo, banner and photographs belong to the Manager or the channel's creator, as applicable. Video titles, thumbnails and playback are provided by YouTube and remain the property of their owners. This site is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by YouTube or Google.

Changes

If any of this changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. We have no mailing list with which to announce it.
