Terms of Use
Last updated September 18, 2026Short version: watch the videos, read the pages, follow the links, email about a lost ring. That is all this site is for. What follows is deliberately narrow — there is nothing to buy here, nothing to sign up for, and no account to hold.
The one that matters: accuracy
Everything on this site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind — including accuracy, completeness or currency. Three things in particular:
- The "best days to detect" calendar is a planning heuristic, not a tide table. It estimates the spring and neap cycle from calculated moon phase alone. It knows nothing about your beach, the surf, the weather, or the real tide height or time on any given day. Check NOAA Tides & Currents and a current marine forecast before you rely on conditions.
- Gear specifications and prices go stale. They come from the manufacturers' own listings at the time of writing and change without notice. Confirm with the manufacturer or seller before buying anything.
- Nothing here tells you where you may legally detect. Rules vary by city, county, agency and parcel, and they change. Detecting is prohibited in California State Parks and on National Park land, many cities restrict or permit-gate it, and private or claimed ground needs the owner's permission. Ask the land manager before you dig.
1. Who runs this site, and what agreeing means
This site is operated by the Manager of Seek and Detect ("the Manager"). Using it means you accept these terms. If you do not, please don't use the site. Enquiries of any kind, including legal ones, reach the Manager at the address in section 12.
2. What this site is
A companion to the channel: a list of videos, notes on gear that has been used on camera, a moon-based calendar, and a set of field rules. It is enthusiast information, not professional, legal, safety or financial advice, and reading it creates no advisory relationship of any kind.
3. Detecting is done at your own risk
Metal detecting happens in surf, on uneven ground, in heat, and sometimes a long way from help. It involves digging and handling unknown buried objects. You do it entirely at your own risk. Nothing on this site is an instruction, an inducement, or any assurance of safety, and the Manager takes no responsibility for injury, loss, citation, property damage or trespass that follows from your own activities.
4. Lost item enquiries
You are welcome to write about a lost ring or other item. An email is just an email: it creates no agreement, no obligation to search, and no promise that anything will be found or returned. Any search that does happen is informal and entirely at the detectorist's discretion.
5. Affiliate links
Some product links earn a commission. As an Amazon Associate, Seek and Detect earns from qualifying purchases, and may earn a commission from other partners, at no extra cost to you. Product mentions reflect the channel's own experience. They are not endorsed by, and imply no partnership with, any manufacturer or retailer.
6. The content and who owns it
The text, layout, logo, banner and photographs here belong to the Manager or the channel's creator, as applicable. Video titles, thumbnails and playback are provided by YouTube and remain the property of their owners; your use of the embedded player is governed by YouTube's and Google's terms. Other names and logos belong to their respective holders and appear for identification only. This site is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by YouTube, Google, or any brand mentioned.
7. What you may not do here
Please don't try to break the site, misuse it to harm anyone, or hammer it at a volume that spoils it for others. There is nothing to log in to, so there is nothing to abuse beyond that.
8. The site is provided as it is
It is offered as a courtesy. It may change, break, or disappear without notice, and no uptime is promised. See the accuracy disclaimer above, which is the heart of this section.
9. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Manager is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of — or reliance on — anything here. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited as far as the law permits. Some places do not allow certain exclusions, so part of this may not apply to you.
10. Changes
These terms may be updated, and the date at the top will move when they are. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revised version.
11. Governing law
California law governs these terms, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in California.
